Hey all. Up front I'm just gonna say that I've never overclocked RAM or a CPU.
I have a Gateway P7801u, and I want to overclock the RAM and CPU, since DDR3 for a notebook costs $350/4GB module, CPUs are The DDR3 is at 533MHz right now; default speed of course. The CPU is at 2.26GHz, 266MHz FSB quad-pumped to 1066Mhz, 8.5x multiplier. I have an excellent cooling pad, so heat isn't really too much of an issue. I aim to overclock the CPU to 10 or 11x, if that's possible without overheating, the RAM to 609 (since it supports 457, 533, and 609 according to PC Wizard), and the graphics card to something that can get me at least 10 extra FPS in say, Mirror's Edge. I've made attempts at overclocking the graphics card (GeForce 9800M GTS 1GB) before, but they just made it more unstable. (Stupid Vista/Win7 64 bit drivers crashing constantly...) I have never actually overclocked RAM or a CPU before though, but as you can see from my post I know a little bit about it already. So if anyone happens to have any suggestions (read: complete lessons), that'd be great!

You can't change the multipliers on your CPU so you are stuck at x8.5.
__________________You can possibly increase your FSB that will increase both CPU and RAM. If you can do 300Mhz (1200Mhz) FSB should not be hard maybe more. So your 2.26Ghz would become 300Mhzx8.5=2.55Ghz. RAM is set as a 1:2 ratio so your RAM would run at 1200Mhz. Try setfsb. Try different PLL's. If one reports all clocks correct likely the correct PLL. If it reports some correct keep trying PLL's in the same group/family. Until all clocks report correct. Go from there.
