Hey.. I recently bought a macbook pro, and I've been having some troubles with getting wifi on it. I turn airport on, and it detects my home network with wireless. I connect to it, and my internet works for about 3 minutes, After that 3 minutes.. I have to restart my computer. The internet works fine if i use ethernet or the first few minutes of turning my macbook on lol. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

Have you tried updating OS X on a wired connection yet? Apple occasionally rolls out firmware updates for airport, so it may be worth your time to install those. Otherwise I woudn't know much of what to tell you besides reinstalling or repairing OS X. I've never experienced that on my Macbook.

I would definitely take it in to an Apple store before reinstalling OS X though. They're usually good about taking care of things like this, sometimes even after the warranty period has expired.

Ok Thanks. I googled the problem, and found this article: http://michaelhyatt.com/2007/01/fix-...cbook-pro.html

He mentions zapping the PRAM, but first he tells you to change the "show" field. When i follow the steps, the "show" field isnt shown, and my network preferences doesn't look like his screenshot. Do you know why? Thanks!!

Have you tried selecting Wireless in the Location field first? Also, what version of OS X are you using? Leopard? I forget when it was released, but this article may date before Leopard's launch.

EDIT: Actually, yes, that probably was Tiger in his screenshot. I don't see it either, and I believe it was a section Apple revamped the UI for. This is what I see:

I'm pretty sure if you just drag Airport to the top like I did here, that will complete the step he was describing. What that means is Airport will have the first priority for internet. To explain why this would be useful in normal scenarios (over ethernet having first priority), this configuration makes it so you can still use the ethernet port for LAN activity.. Which is really nice for transferring files.

If you don't do that very often, then after you complete all the steps of the guide you found, just drag the ethernet back to the top later. (that way an ethernet internet connection will be prioritized over wifi)

I found your problem.

Seriously though you might have a setting where your ip from the router changes and the mac doesn't update accordingly.

I had this problem before, and I ended up turning off IPv6, and changed my router to show only G-signals. That seemed to fix it for me.

Try this:

System Preferences> Network.

Click TCP/IP at the top tab.

Where it says Configure IPv6: Change that to "Off".

It may help, and it may not. But it worked for me, as well as changing my routers broadcast signal for only G.

Ouch! In that case I'd make an appointment with your local Apple store and see if they can help you solve it. If I find anything new about the issue on Leopard, I will let you know here. Definitely do a system update if you haven't already though.
