Title sums it up nicely. I went notebook hunting after Thanksgiving last year, but Best Buy was ridiculous. The line at WalMart was somewhat more encouraging, and, lucky for me, I found this moderately disappointing machine. It was definitely an impulse buy; a little more research would have paid off. In my defense, however, I had been ignoring computers for a few years at that point, thus deeming a single core acceptable. Anyway, after seeing the socket type in a similar model at work I decided to research potential upgrade options. After pulling up CPUZ I tracked down the platform info and found some comparisons at www.notebookcheck.net. Then, somewhat foolishly, I nabbed a Turion TL-58 on eBay; in my rush, it looks like I overlooked some compatibility issues with this mobo. The service manual lists the RM/ZM series as acceptable, but makes no mention of the TL models.
__________________So, this raises the question: Am I the proud owner a useless chip, or is the compatibility info published by HP of minimal concern? The TL's use the same socket type (S1-Gen2. . . I do believe), but will there be an issue with voltages? I was planning on underclocking anyway, in anticipation of increased heat, but it's looking bleak. Regardless, I'll still drop it in, just to see what happens, as long as the threat of fire or explosion is minimal. I've already ripped it apart and can provide pics in the unlikely event anyone is interested, and am already researching better cooling options (also pretty slim). Also, first post.

I believe the Sempron SI-40 2Ghz is a Socket S1. Same as the TL's? Not the Socket S1G2 that the ZM's have. It will have 6w TDP increase.

Information was slim, but one source had my Sempron listed as S1G2 (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD...40SAM12GG.html).
