Lenovo Thinkpads seem to be built for longevity, not for performance or looks. My brother's Lenovo laptop lasted longer than my Compaq Presario. The battery life was the biggest problem for mine since the 6-cell lasted only 20 minutes (after 14 months). Now I have a 12-cell battery that lasts 4 hours and 40 minutes on Performance setting.

Compared to carrying Christmas trees down a hillside my old setup was light. The T400 is REALLY light. I might smash an X200 if I tried to login with my big lumberjack hands...
25 minutes? Thats not a battery its a UPS!

I used to have an IBM Thinkpad with a Pentium 1 and 32mb ram that still works. I have it away though when I got my T400. The T400 is actually a little bigger, but aside from the USB and ethernet ports it looks exactly the same

Thanks for the update. Do Outlet products go through the same warranty repair service as retail sales? Or is there a special Outlet repair department?

Think of a new ThinkPad from the Outlet like this: Someone bought it brand new and configured it online, paying full price. Then that person canceled the order. So what happens next is the box instead of going to that person goes straight to the Lenovo outlet. Then when someone like me sees that laptop for sale at the outlet, they ship that same box straight to me at a really good discount.

The standard warranty e_dogg is exactly the same. I have the manual right here. It is a standard 1 year depot warranty so if something happens I ship it to Lenovo and then they replace the part or replace the laptop. I couldn't afford anything better than that so it worked out great for me. For 700 bucks spending and extra 200-300 bucks on a warranty seems silly.

Bunnywinkles, yes getting a new ThinkPad from the Outlet is worth it. It is a really good deal if:
  • If you want a good quality laptop, but don't want to spend a lot.
  • If you are willing to compromise on certain features to save that extra 100-200 bucks.
  • If you aren't planning on getting an extended warranty.

You can't get extended warranties from the outlet. You can always get one from another company or buy another year from Lenovo, but since the whole point is saving money I wouldn't for a 500-700 dollar computer. Get an Asus if you need an extended warranty for a cheap computer since they have a 2 year warranty standard.

If you are going to buy from the outlet I have some suggestions that I will post later.
