Had a job this past summer, not planning on spending the money earned from it. Worst job in the world by the way, got up at 4:45 AM to pick up dog **** all day for minimum wage. Can't work during the school year because i'm in Bio II AP, Chem II AP, Calc BC AP, English IV AP, and any other AP course I could sign up for, making all A's.

Tight, your schedule sounds very similar to mine. AP Calc BC, AP Bio, AP Spanish, AP Literature and comp, AP Physics, AP Gov, and then a study hall. So far I've also taken "any other AP course I could sign up for."

I just lucked out with a job as a soda jerk... pays for my car, motorcycle, computer, food, and investments. Unfortunately, I'm out of luck for college, I started saving too late, and my parents aren't exactly wealthy.

Yeah, that actually sounds like a pretty nice job. Either way, I may just ask for the cash and put it in the bank in some savings.

8200M will not play L4D at low res / low detail. I know this is subjective, but 15-20FPS AVERAGE was not playable for me.

Also, if you aren't planning on lugging a laptop to class, i'd build a computer, but if you are bringing your computer, then i don't see a reason why you would need the laptop to play L4D.

Look into building a small cheap rig with windows xp, bring your own monitor kb and mouse. pocket the change.

Darn, if only you asked earlier, I would have suggested the laptop I bought (~550CAD, 14.1" screen, 9300m GS --enough to play L4D on lowest settings, T6400, etc), but they no longer have it available at TigerDirect.

This is a good one, although it might be cutting it really close for L4D. Other than that, it is really good for the price. And you would have to add $20.

There is this one which offers similar specs to the one above, but a slightly bigger screen and 70$ less.

I'd seriously look into used laptops. I can't imagine you'll find anything over an HD 3200 or 8200M without finding some sort of incredible sale.

Hell I can run l4d on my HD 2300 on low res and low settings just fine

So do you guys think a Dell laptop would be a bad idea? What do you guys think of Dell? I'm not in the loop of name brands right now because i've built everything myself for a few years now.

I've seen many people with dell vostro's with 8600gt's and they run mostly any game maxed except crysis lol
