I think it depends on how you are able to access the wireless connection. When you activate your wireless connection while at work do you get a warning that it is an unsecure network? If so, then I think your employer can have some idea of what you are doing while online.

If you see the park bench when you go to Network and Sharing Center, then you are good to go. I'm at work right now on mine and I look at whatever the heck I want. There is no way they can pin it down to one person with hundreds of people using the connection every day. You work in a big public place, don't worry about it. If you worked in a tiny little office with only 6 or 10 workers, then yeah, you might worry.

Do you need to sign on with a unique password? If so they can track your activity. If not a unique login then pretty much safe unless you really do stuff to attract attention. Illegal activity is a bad idea at work.

I work in a hospital too. Anyone can see anything you do on the wireless network as it is unencrypted. As for them watching how long you're on the internet they can't do that. They can only track internet usage for hospital network computers. That's wired or wiress hospital computers on the secured network.

There are 2 wireless connections availible in a hospital 1 open unencrypted for public use of the internet and 1 encrypted and hidden (unbroadcasted ssid) for secure wireless connection to the hospital's network. If you're using your own laptop or device you're connecting to the open (guest) network. Guests are not timed for how long they use the internet.

You cannot accidentally sign on to the secure network even if you had a username and password as the MAC addresses are filtered, you would need someone from IT to add your computer to the list.

This is how it is at my work. If you'd like to know for sure what applies to your workplace you can always talk to one of the IT guys. They're pretty laid back in most cases.
