Your requirements aren't very demanding, just about any generic notebook will fit the bill as long as it has a large enough HDD. In light of this there is no 'best' notebook to fit your needs unless you come up with more demanding uses.

Anyway, if I were looking for my wife I'd start with the Sony Vaio FW series. They have a good blend of components for the price.

I tend to agree that just about any laptop will work as long as it has a large enough hard drive. There is no need to purchase a laptop over about $509 for the requirements in my opinion. I think even one of the lower end Acer’s would be a good choice.

Thanks for your help. I think I will just get one from walmart since it sounds like it doesn't matter that much because her demands aren't that high and I get a 10% discount

Just remember her demands could change. I see it all the time customers coming back because they didn't think they'd do anything else but web surf. Then find out when they start doing other things that there laptop cant do it or does a really bad job at it. Plus how long is that laptop going to stay on top of the ever changing computer world. Meeting new software requirements and OS requirments. Things you also need to consider.
