Default Asus 1000HE replacement LCD

So today I found that my screen had been damaged. I know this isn't covered by warranty, but I want to know the best way to purchase a new LCD. My pretty screen now has a hideous black/gray mountain range. Is this even cost effective to fix? The netbook costs $349, so I don't want to buy a new screen if it is a significant percentage of that. The damage isn't too bad, it doesn't interfere with anything on screen yet. I am worried about it spreading to cover more of the screen though. Will this spread? Has anyone had any experience dealing with Asus in purchasing a replacement part?

I've always used ebay for LCD replacements on laptops. it looks like you will be spending about $100 for a new one:

applying more pressure to the spot will indeed spread the fluid released from the broken cells of the LCD. I live close to an asus repair depot here in canada and they have done laptop repairs fairly priced.

a little too late, but there was a warranty that you could have signed up for from asus that allowed 1 year damage warrantyfor laptops/netbooks right after purchasing it. it would have covered that.

Gonna call an Asus repair center today to see how much it will cost for them to replace the screen. Curious to see how much it will be with shipping on top of repair cost, but the upside is that the warranty will be intact. If I go the ebay route, it will be cheaper but I'm guessing that it will void the warranty, plus I really hate tearing apart laptops.
