Default Core solo battery life?

Will it ever hit 8 hours like some netbooks?

I'm thinking Core Solo or dual core Atom for my next laptop.

I have a Pentium M 1.8ghz/1gb ram/128mb vram which seems slow so I'm worried the Atom will be even worse.

My dad has an Eee PC so I've had some hands-on, definitely decided to wait for Ion after trying to watch streaming videos, it's slower than my 4 year old laptop!

No.... Core Solo are 20-35w, Atom is 2-4w.

http://www.theminilaptop.net/lenovo-...bluetooth.html You can find these refurbished and restored for roughly $250-$350. Recently I purchased one on ebay for $280 as a gift and I A+rove.

Not for gaming

What DuckieHo said.
It's not about how "underpowered" per say, that the laptop is.
It's about how efficient the processor is.

One day high end processors will no longer need watts (plural) to operate.
Core 2 Solo are really...bad. At least when compared to similar clocked processors.

i just got a toshiba that has a pentium dualcore (CULV) clocked at 1.3ghz.

I opened it and booted it and it had 88% batter life. On power saver mode I used it (web browsing, IMing, playing with things) from 7 until 11 before i plugged it in. I plugged it in when it was exactly at 50% life. That should give you an idea

Just unplugged it, its at 99% and estimating about 8 and a half hours in power saver with web browsing and IMing. I dont notice any lag, I watched youtube full screen in HD perfectly fine. I know I have a dual compared to you looking at single, but so far I love this ultraportable. I got it for only 499 too due to some BB pricing errors.

The core 2 duo CULV is down to 10w now, it was the older ones that were 25-35w

As far as will it get 8 hours life? With light usage and a 6 cell battery yes. According to toshibas utility my sytstem all together uses about 10w when im browsing.
