Alright so im very tempted to buy a netbook right now because it would make taking notes in class so much easier. What I want to know is, is there any new hardware (like something to outclass the current standard of the n270/80 processor) or anything like that that would be worth me waiting for. I mean pretty much all I'm going to do on it is word-processing etc, but still.

Yeah it is. And unless you plan on watching HD videos or playing some low-end FPS's, they won't be worth it.

If this is for note taking make sure you pick one with a decent sized keyboard. I believe the biggest so far is 92% of full size, and some models that have it are the ASUS 1005HA and 1008HA, and HP Mini 110 and 311.

good to know, that's all im going for. i realize there are better ones out there, but for the money, anything is better than pencil and paper. it has a 6-cell battery too, lots of them have 3-cell.

The truth is that the number of cells in a battery doesn't say much. They need to tell you the mAH/mWH rating, and how many watts the device uses while running. It's like comparing an AAA battery to a D battery. Both put out 1.5V and have only 1 cell, but the D battery lasts longer on the same device because there's more juice inside.
