Whoa. If this is anything like comparing the actual GTX 260 and 4650 graphics cards (instead of their laptop counterparts), then the GTX 260 crushes it.

Keep in mind the NVIDIA 260m does not have the same specs of the GTX 260 card:

260m
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...x_260m_us.html

GTX 260
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...tx_260_us.html

From what I can remember reading, the 260m is a more beefed up 9800GT with a die shrink. Dont get me wrong, it is a great mobile card with a 1375MHz core clock <I think this is a misprint on NVIDIA's site> and 1Gb of ram, but it isnt comarable to the GTX 260.

But still: even the 9800 GTX would crush the 4650.

I agree it is a great card, and I edited my previous post to make it clear. I just dont agree with NVIDIA calling it the 260m... it implies it is a mobile version of the GTX 260 desktop GPU. And I also edited my post to show it is more on par with a 9800GT card.

Nvidia intros mobile GeForce GTX 200 GPUs... sort of

Back to the new Nvidia products, the GeForce GTX 260M is a slightly stripped-down version of the 280M: it has 112 SPs, a 550MHz core clock speed, a 1375MHz shader speed, and a 462 gigaFLOPS rating. Nvidia pairs it with the same 1GB of 950MHz GDDR3 RAM as the 280M, though, so it should still be rather peppy. According to the firm, the GeForce 260M can outperforms the Mobility Radeon HD 4850 by up to 20%—a comparison that doesn't account for the freshly launched Mobility Radeon HD 4860.

So then would you say the GTX 260m is superior to the 4650?

I would have to say so. I just hate giving a difinitive answer without doing some more research. but here is what I can gather:

The GTX 260M is like the 8800 GT/9800 GT desktop cards clocked a little bit slower and has 112sp.

The Mobile Radeon 4650 is slower version of the Radeon 4670 desktop card (both 320 Shader).

So it looks like the 260m is a better mobile GPU then the 4650.

edit: Here is an OCN thread on this same topic if you want to check it out:
