Default Please Help me Buy My First and hopefully Only Laptop...

Hello I finally payed my debts and college loans a bit and have some spare money to buy laptop. I will be attending medical school next year and really need to get a latop to take to campus and use for school/entertainment(can't afford ps3 etc and still game on super nintendo and ps1 XD) and i won't be able to take my desktop over.

Anyways my budget is around 800-1500( at most ) but anything around 1000 is perfect. I don't like lenovo laptops no matter what you guys recommend i think they look ugly as heck and remind me of my old free ibm back in junior high school lol. Also I hate Dell and anything made by dell due to a lot of bad experiences etc.

Anyways what do you guys recommend for the best laptop for this price?

I'd take anything less than 15 inch ( don't want to carry around a giant VCR ) and weight not more than 6 pound'ish. battery life is not as important as some people but i need it to last atleast 3 hours'ish since we have outlets everywhere even in the bathrooms lol so that wont be a problem.

-Anyways i been doing a bit research and i see a lot of ASUS laptops are they any good? i only used motherboards by asus how are their laptops?

-Windows 7 is coming out soon should i wait it out a bit ?

-Black friday and holidays near also should i also wait for better deals?

-DDR3 is more common on laptops is this true and how are they in prices nowadays for laptops?

Any information is greatly appreciated, and remember i need something that will last a long time since i am poor as hell at the moment and will be broke for a long time after so upgrades/replacement won't come around often.

4GB ddr3
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
15.6 inch and weights like 6 pounds. all for 1k is this a good buy or can i get better anywhere else like asus etc?

That machine isn't bad at all but the i7 throws me off. I would of figured the Mobile CPU's would be the same speeds as the regular CPU.

I recommend you stay away from that CPU/laptop...

Really what apps are you going to be running on a laptop that will use the extra cores?

How many apps are you going to run that will take use of one or two cores?

Wouldn't it be smarter to try for a significantly faster dualcore in your price range?
