xp install problem

xp install problem
ok guys need some help. trying to install windows xp on my buddys vista compaq presario cq40-215wm. says press any key to boot form cd like normal, then when i do, disc just spins and spins and the screen hangs eventually coming up with a bsod....anyone know how to get around this issue or is it just impossible to install xp on this craptop

Have you changed the BIOS OS setting to XP instead of Vista?

yea the setting was locked...where it says OS in the bios and says vista its locked u can see it but un-highlightable/changeable

none this bios is junk.....theres a crap compaq/hp proprietary system for ya. only thing i can do is change the boot order and that really aint helping.

there might be a password on the bios, if you cannot find it then maybe clear cmos if possible?

Try Ctrl+F1. I am not confident that it will work, but you have nothing to lose.
