I'm really interested in getting rid of my main PC. I made a trade post on Craigslist, offering this computer, and my 939 system up for a decent laptop. I got offered an XPS m1330 for it, minus one of each of the hard drives I have listed in my PC specs, and I get to keep my 939 setup. It's the Red Edition, which is pretty cool, b/c it was a proprietary device that funded African disparaged people, and it has potential to be a good system.
I'm indecisive, yet going forward with it anyway. Any final thoughts on the situation? I think I get the gear (cooler, carrying case, etc.) with it as well. I've got a lot to do between now and then.

If your done with a Desktop, I'd take the Laptop. Although your sig rig is pretty awesome, why do you want to get rid of it?
I personally hate gaming on Laptops, but if you have good monitor I suppose its okay.

Because, despite the bottleneck,, my backup system would work rather flawlessly with an X58-59xx video card, and a solid OS like Win7, XP, or Vista, in that order. Hell, Ubuntu 9.10 wouldn't suck, either. Also, I get to keep my data. I also get the portability factor of a laptop, with basic compatibility for source games.

What do you place the value of your system at? A used XPS 1330 is $500 to $800 tops if you ask me?

I agree with Underthegun..... your system is worth alot more than that laptop unless it has a bunch of upgrades..... what are the specs of the laptop?

Honestly, about $1200 for my system. I'm looking for a comparable system in laptop form, with at least 2 bays for HDDs. This has 4GB RAM and one 500GB HDD, with a T6600 C2DM at 2.2GHz, and an 8400M GS. As far as it goes, it's probably the best option I have at the moment. I'm looking to get away from desktops, and fiddle with laptops. I'm going back to school, and I want the portability factor. That's mainly why. I did my research as well on high to low pricing, and do realize I'd be losing out by about $200, at least. I doubt that anyone would trade a tits laptop for my system here. I'm looking for an all in one laptop that DOESN'T cost 5K to build. So, what am I looking at?

$1200 seems a little steep but I am out of it too much to make a proper judgement.

Well, you see my point then, if 1200 is too much to ask. The original cost of the laptop was 1300. So, even if the cost of my system started at the same pricepoint, they'd meet upon values at some point. Furthermore, the resale value of laptops is slightly above the curve of selling a 2 year old, dated system. For some reason, they have staying power with recycle ability.

Sorry to be the irrelevant post guy, but I enjoy the combo, of a high powered desktop, and a cheapo netbook. Especially, because notebooks/netbooks do not fare well while in my possession, so cheap is good. And netbooks are "light weight", in the metaphorical sense, so they feel snappy; at least, I guess that is why, but it does not dissapoint for low to medium intensity tasks. Then, when the value plummets, who cares, if it cost $300? (again, sorry to be that guy)
What are your intended tasks/applications?

Data entry and light gaming, with the option to expand processor and hdd at a later interval. It will take up to a T9500, so, I can cram a better processor into it if desired, and max out the hard drive space. As of yet, they haven't had a 2.5" 1TB HDD that's commercially affordable.
