Question Gateway Heating problem

I have an older Gateway MT3421, It has the AMD Turion 64bit 2.20Ghz, 1GB ram, 160gb hard drive, Nvidia 6100Geforce go! series. It works fine, and all that, I noticed it gets really really really hot on the bottom, So I took it apart and cleaned all the dust out, while it was apart, I noticed the bottom doesn't have very many vents, especially the CPU. I was wondering if it' be possible to cut a whole in the bottom of the casing where the CPU fan is so it can get fresh air, or are they designed like that and aren't to be messed with?

The bottom of the case? or the back?

and when you say can i cut something, by all means YES - welcome to your first mod - may it be on a pos oem pc, but by golly rogers its a mod!

could consider adding a case fan or two, also run coretemp and report its results.

Water cool it just kidding

You can cut without any real harm but my reccomendation is to cut slots, creating more vents, instead of cutting a round hole. This will help keep stuff out of the case and interferring with the fan.

just remember, heat rises - slots up top are exhaust, near bottom are intake.

This thing has no slots up top, or down on bottom (aside from a few which appear to have no function what so ever) The only vent is on the side, and it's the hot air (VERY hot if i might add)

mod it up dude. put some nice vents on - look into screening and c-channel tubing - strip the paint and make a custom front instead of the lameo plastic. i actually am using a piece of road sign for a front of my server.
