I'm removing it to remove the pictures and word documents from it. Is it possible to hook the hard drive up to my desktop and manually remove the files i want using my OS? I understand that I can physically hook it up. The computer is infected with virus's. It's started to BSOD and there are some important information on there that my friend wants to get off before we wipe it.
I've already let my friend know to start backing his stuff up.

It should work just fine. Just shut the desktop completely down, then plug the laptop HDD in and power up the desktop. Windows should just recognize it at start up. The go in "computer" and grab whatever you need off of it, then right click and format it when done.
