I have recently tried a 5 to 6 year old laptop. Its a DELL INSPIRON 1100.

Windows XP 32 bit Service Pack 3

256 MB Ram
2.39 Ghz Pentium 4
DVD-ROM (not sure if its a burner)
no built in wireless.
Not sure of what kind of graphics it has.. will check again later.
screen resolution of 1024x768...

Nice, I have a 1100 also with a celeron 2.0ghz, the rest of the specs are the same. Ive been thinking on upgrading the memory to 512 or so .

It is so heavy too.

Don't feel bad. Since my wife basically took over our Inspiron 1420 with a 45nm T8300, I was left to update this Dell B130 that I'm typing on. It's got a Celeron 1.4GHz and a 40GB IDE hard drive. I upped it to 2GB RAM and a new battery. I loaded Windows 7 Pro 32bit on it and it surprisingly works great. I wouldn't game on it or anything, but it is quick around the internet and plays video very well.

well if it would be available @ q2 2010, then i might still be able to wait. So long as it has a very similar specification to the one i mentioned earlier.

so what do you think about the single core acer (mentioned at the first post) together with the ram and gpu in it?

If I were in the market for a laptop today, I really wouldn't consider buying a single core machine unless it was dirt cheap on eBay or something. You can find dual core laptops around $400 which will last you longer I think.

More like Q1 2010.

They are already available in Japan, Australia and Europe in netbooks as well as in domestic (USA) nettops. You can see the performance for yourself, but they do play last gen games and 1080p with no problems.

Most of them include Ion so they will play old games, HD content well.

Bear in mind Ion 2 is coming in Q1 2010 and will brand out to other mobile chips because Intel will release their two chip IGP solution around the same time.

AMD is releasing a new mobile chip around that time and so is VIA (which will be multi-core) which will both feature Ion 2...

Sounds very interesting. So clarkdale is already out?

Sounds like next year would be a really good year to look for netbooks or nettops. Or maybe even laptops

Any links to any kind of the stuff you mentioned?
