I want to upgrade to a wireless N router since my new laptop came with a wireless B G and N adapter. There are 3 other laptops running on the G network.
So what I was wondering is if I do go with N with the G still be able to connect to the N if I got a backwards compatible router and will N still work if G is being used? or is it one or the other not both at the same time?

It's my understanding that most routers will operate on all b/g/n frequencies.
All g devices should be able to connect to a n router, just won't get n speeds. N devices will work on g routers too I believe, but they'll only get g speeds.

You'll be fine if upgrading to a N-router.
__________________Just a heads up though, if I'm not mistaken, the 802.11n specification hasn't been completely finalized yet. If you can wait, wait. Otherwise, whatever N-router you get, get one that's specified as "Draft-N v2.0" and not the older 1.0 models. V2.0 devices are supposed to be compatible with final-revision specifications.

It was made the norm a couple weeks back.
Don't get draft, get the real thing ![]() Although I haven't heard much about the non draft n stuff, I can only assume that it's better than draft.

Only so much information I can keep up with - been paying much more attention to enterprise-level solutions lately, and wireless doesn't really fall into that category (at least, not with the companies I work with).

![]() Surprisingly, I didn't hear very much at all about wireless N becoming standard. I saw one post on it from some guy, and it was a tiny reference. It wasn't even a major blog. And tekzilla didn't cover it. I'm quite befuddled as to why no one has screamed ZOMG N IS SO FAST yet.
