Got this machine with 2*512's. Upgraded to 2*1G - all ok. Just tried to upgrade to 2*2G and it bluescreens.
If I pull one module out, all is fine. If I replace that module with the one I took out, all is fine, too. If I leave the 2G in the lower slot and put one of the 1GB in the upper slot - bluescreen. I am running Windows xp x86 i copied and pasted most of it because those are the exact problems i got anyone know how to fix it? EDIT: when i boot the system it reads all 4gb so i dont know

The Kingston and Crucial sites both say that the maximum amount of RAM supported in that system is only 2GB... kind of weird considering it's DDR2-RAM.

I think your RAMS vtech is kicking in yo.
Try underclocking or overclocking the RAM and see if it still BSODs?

The second paragraph was in response to the fact that you said the BIOS sees 4GB. I'm saying that the particular RAM chips you have might still be incompatible due to memory timings or speeds. Just because the BIOS sees the RAM doesn't mean the RAM is fully compatible with the system. You can also see if you get a BSoD if you boot into Windows Safe Mode. It could be the graphics driver that's having a fit about the RAM since the system uses Intel GMA graphics.

My Compaq Presario has the limit of 2GB RAM as well, but Windows 7 was able to read more than 2GB due to a BIOS upgrade. It could be the mobo chipset, which limits the amount of RAM used on the laptop.

At this point, if it were me (and I hadn't thrown the system out the window yet), I'd probably return the RAM and get chips that are 7-7-7-20 timings. What's the speed / timings on the 512MB and 1GB DIMMs btw?
