If someone hasn't written a packing guide yet, I think it might be time for one.

Simple way is; Put item in box, place peanuts around item, close and tape box, place mailing information on outside of box, carry -not kick- to your nearest UPS or USPS store to ship.

Carry? I just wait for UPS to show up at my door and hand the box to the driver. If you aren't expecting a delivery, then you can schedule a pickup.

No. I'm just saying that it would be far easier and less time consuming. Plus, when the customer packages it, it isn't guranteed safe shipping. When we do it, we are bound to honor that if it gets damaged due to packaging, it's our fault and WE pay out replacement cash. It's the "Pack And Ship Promise".

Sure don't. It's like three bucks for a box though. Bring in a box and tell 'em to package it.

I always told people to go online to UPS.com and read their packaging instructions right off the website. Might seem lazy but UPS Store's aren't involved in the shipping process other then labeling the packages and boxing if the customer wants to pay the premium to have the store do it for them.

Some stores are ran differently then others. If you have 10 MB's and you want them all packaged/insured they will probably bubblewrap each one and make you wait while they do so.

Some stores will guestimate the weight/size adding a little extra to be cautious so they don't undercharge. Charge you, send you on your way then package everything later while your gone and possibly damage something and leave you basically to deal with UPS while they play innocent middle-man. This method they prefer because it's quicker for the customer, and fluffs their numbers. Time-sensitive shipments should be done while you wait otherwise they may miss the cutoff if busy/understaffed and too many items left to pack. (Happens a lot during XMAS season)

If it ever seems like their upset about you packaging it yourself, it's probably because it's not up to UPS policy and they can't insure it the way it is upon presentation. Thus meaning they have to unpack/repack, explain why their charging you for everything, and usually can't use the original box because it's too small with extra new packaging.

Side note, you can order free boxes from USPS.com and get them at just about every post office as well. Funny thing is people still lined up and bought boxes at UPS Stores all day long.

Not to completely bash UPS Stores in general, but the franchises where I worked let most the experienced senior staff go ala Cicuit City firings when they sold them not long ago and now all of them employ minimum wage kids. I'd trust the postal service over a UPS Store cause at least it's federal and those employee's have a federal career day in day out so you know they'll get it done (maybe a little slower ) and they have to worry about their retirement/benefits etc.

UPS Store some punk a** kid could jack all your stuff or break it just for fun and find a different job the next day for another minimum wage job.

UPS Store =/= UPS and sadly a lot of people assume this.
The stores are just Mail Box ETCs renamed. UPS' reaction to FedExKinkos. (which they'll be dropping kinko's name soon. http://milwaukee.bizjournals.com/mil...2/daily16.html)

Just my on UPS Stores.
I disagree on everything except for the last paragraph. It is MBE renamed and added some stuff. I loved that job. I was also involved somewhat in the mangement of the place, so i think i may know some more about it then you.
