Exclamation 2U Server for Bandwidth (WI)

This is a bizarre post, but I am wondering if anyone is up to the task.

I have a fairly powerful server at my disposal, its actually on my desk next to me. It is a 2U rack server that contains:
  • Dual Xeon Core 2 Processors (5148)
  • 8Gb of DDR2-667
  • 5 Gigabit Ethernet Ports (Intel dedicated card)
  • 2 x 250 7200RPM Hard Drives
  • 2U Form Factor
  • Expandability to 6 HDD, Multiple riser cards, etc.
  • Intel 5000 Series Chipset

Now, this thing isn't doing anything on my desk.

Unfortunately, I don't have the money to put it in a datacenter, either. So I am proposing that someone help colocate the system and in return I will give them almost full privileges over the server.

Honestly, I just want to see the thing used.

I live in WI and my stipulation is that it remains there. There are a number of data centers close to me (Milwaukee), which would offer fast routing to anywhere in the US.

basically, this is a deal that gets someone a dedicated server for ~$100/mo. They can run their own game servers ,web server, whatever. They can virtualize servers, use it for storage. I am very flexible.

PM me with any questions you may have. Bump if you think this is cool. Ideally, I would like to see something OCN-related come out of this.

Yep, and I used it for that when I lived alone. It was about a 1200-1400 ppd monster. However, the thing is about 65dB when its on, so my new wife isn't having any of that

In the cost of hosting it or powering it, you'd start loosing money after the first month if you compared it to a 8800GT folding...

Yep, and now that I pay for power (I didn't in my old apartment), I am more concerned about that.

Because of the way I procured this item (all engineering sample parts), I cannot sell it.

The CPUs are the only eng. sample items. but the server itself was a unit sent for UL testing. Therefore, all the serial numbers are recorded as void for sale. By proving that a unit was used ONLY for platform validation and not for sale, the company I got the server from did so for almost nothing.

Then they gave it to me.

In return, I promised not to sell any of the components.
