Default Universal 62mm TEC Plates

I'm selling the 2 plates required for 62mm TECs including bolts

Overview

Ok well if you want to DIRECT DIE TEC cool you'll need to use the most powerful TECs you can get. These TEC's are all 62mmX62mm. But NO water or air cooling blocks have at lest a 62mmX62mm perfectly flat base so you can't use 62x62mm TECs. So you need a hot and cold plate (what im selling)

You HAVE to cover all the TEC with a hot and cold plate for 2 main reasons

  • A TEC has no inherent heat spreading ability. This means that if the TEC isn't covered by a heat spreader the percent sticking out wont beable to cool anything. This will obviously lead to reduce performance or failure of the TEC if the hot side isn't covered

  • A TEC needs a far amount of pressure pushing it together other wise magnetic forces will result in poor life expectancy

The plates im making will more than cover a 62mm TEC to ensure the TEC is properly cooled and all of it's power (Q) can cool your load (CPU)

These plates will also be bolted together to provide clamping pressure to the TEC

And lastly the cold side heat spreader will be machined in such a way as to miss all motherboard components. Thus allowing it to actually fit on your motherboard / CPU

These Plate can be used for ether water or air cooling.. But when selecting an air cooler it's HIGHLY recommend you use one with a flat base and you cool it with very powerful fans

Installation goes

Air or water cooler
tim
Hot plate
tim
TEC
tim
Cooled plate
tim
CPU

You'll be required to bolt the hot and cold plates together using the included bolts please torque these to 10-12 in pounds. wait 12 hours for the excess "tim" to squeeze out then re-torque

Mounting measurements are as follow. These should fit any AM2 775 1366 but that's up to the purchaser to ensure.

Hot side ( where your cooler goes )

Cold side ( where your CPU goes ) This is upside down in the picture below

Your air or water cooling block holds the TEC and plates to your CPU. Depending on your coolers retention mechanism you may require some long bolts

What you need

  • High quality "TIM"
  • A TEC of any size, max being 62x62mm. Id recommend 360watts of Qmax or more. The 545watt TEC from Ebay is about 360watts of cooling (Qmax) if you want more cooling then i'd recommend the 437Qmax TEC from Frozen CPU.
  • A meanwell 12volt PSU. For air coolers id suggest running it at 10volts. For water coolers a 13.5 or 15 volt psu maybe better. id start with the PSU's voltage turned down.Obviously the voltage you want to run will depend on the TEC you select and the load your trying to cool.
  • Insulation. i uses self-adhesive window insulation foam and electrical tape (see pics below) Dielectric grease is recommend however i personally dont use it
Recommended
Torque wrench
long bolts (now included)

Use of this device will result in sub dew point cold plate temps. This means insulation is REQUIRED.

Price
$50 USD + postage form NZL. Payment method is Paypal
postage to the US is about $25

NOW shipping with 3mmx50mm long bolts that can be used for retaining your cooler and plates to your motherboard.

Weight is about 700 grams

Older version of these blocks under a TRUE

Older version with TEC

Older version with insultaion

Current version is finished to a higher standard than the "Older" one

Intrested but id like more details.Id liketo use a TRUE or some type of AIR cooling.Would i have to insulate the motherboard? And could i use my PSU in stead of a meanwell?

The TRUE isn't the best cooler to use as it doesn't have a flat base standard i guess you could lap it flatter though. You need duel 3000rpm fans in my opinion

you would still need to insulate cos at idle it will go sub ambient... however it should be ok for a while with out it .. but thats your risk

with the frozen cpu TEC this draws about 120 -130 watts .. some say thats to much for the molex connectors to handle .. others have used old psu's and cut the molexes off.

i would still recommend using a meanwell though cos you can adjust the voltage. i think for air coolers 10 volts maybe optimal over 12 which you can't do with a PC's PSU ... you can of coarse do your own testing

Maybe you should start putting a logo/initials/date/number on the things you are making in case one day you are big and famous the people who followed you at the start can brag about having the TEC plates marked 001 or whatever.

Well not big, but if you keep up the quality and make a few products you could become well known by enthusiasts. Cathar springs to mind along with whoever made the Stinger block.

At some point I will have to comission you (or someone closer) to mill a massive chiller to my specifications.

Chillers is where i'm going as you know but it was clear i didn't have the skills yet to make them and it would cost to much to make mistakes... After i've finished my 62mm block i have something special to make .. Which may cause a TEC revival for AIR and WATER coolers... but at some stage i need to make a sale to fund all of this.
