I think the more important question is: "is there an itunes version which will work with linux?"

I have heard of hacked versions of iTunes that would run on Linux, but the closest apps. I know off that have similar functionality are Banshee and Songbird (I think they can even sync. with the device).

Rhythmbox is inspired by iTunes and has support for iPods. It's simple compared to other music players like Amarok, but I like it better as it feels like bloated. It's maintained by the GNOME Team and comes default in distros that use the GNOME desktop environment.

Ok. But that said isn't OSX and Linux\Unix very similar.... hasn't anyone made a compatability tool (like Winex) for MAC? Just curious.

There is wine for OSX, but I don't need to use it to run iTunes... You could try wine for Linux and see if it'll run iTunes. I should give it a try myself, but at this point I don't know if it will work.
