APIs are commands in which the games are developed with. Having a single API won't run a game.

OpenGL works in Linux.
I believe Wine is a DirectX emulation in Linux.

Ya OpenGl is already installed in Ubuntu. Most OpenGl games should work in Linux. Here is a website of some OpenGL games.Wine can take some DirectX games and Emulate them so Ubuntu will recognize it. I found a link on how to install DirectX9 in Ubuntu. I am not sure if it works. What games are you trying to run in Ubuntu? Because most top of the line games will not run.

i have a similar issue with one of my old systems. the sound card and network card won't work if they're installed right next to each other. only one or the other.
