Default FC6 Test2 Screenshot

Hey guys,

Here's the latest FC6 Test 2 screenshot from fedoraforum.org

They haven't integrated the new artwork yet or updated gnome, but this is the general idea.

I have included the scaled down version and a zipped full 1920x1200 version.

Looks a little tidier, but too much like the other Fedora OS.

They should put some better, non-dull themes on IMO.

Make sure you sandpaper the hole, and then put some U rubber over it to avoid sharp edges. Put some grease around the newly drilled hole, and then screw your computer, screw it hard. Maybe install some UV lights and turn em up to indicate that your computer is also excited.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I guess thats because they haven't intergrated the latest Gnome. FC5 is an enterprise distro, they don't want fancy in-your-face themes. They're supposed to be calm. The last thing you want when your debugging a million lines of code is a bright red theme in your face constantly.

When you put it that way - yeah, I guess your right.

You can get the themes real easy.

http://www.gnomelook.org

It's not like windows where you've got to crack your UXtheme file - you just download and install the tar.bz file.

Are they synched to the GNOME release?

Also, do you know if goals of FC6 are aggressive/risky in what they are trying to do, or is it going to be a newer version of FC5 with some moderate upgrades here and there.?

[QUOTEJ o h n R o g e r s]They should put some better, non-dull themes on IMO.[/quote]

Dull = Clean & Simple, IMO. I think that is kind of what they are shooting for, as Jester pointed out. I am sure they will change something, but I wouldn't expect anything fancy. They also figure that not everyone would like a fancier theme if they were to put one in, so they leave it to individual users to theme to their preference. It is seriously the easiest thing to do with GNOME.

They're making some big updates to the kernel and Xen support. They have also upgraded gnome and all apps are updated to their newest versions. As far as I know, there's nothing major except the kernel stuff and the upgrade to Xorg 7.1 - which nvidia doesnt support yet. Hopefully they will when FC6 is released. I beleive they'll have also fixed the 21xx kernel's problem with RAID arrays.

It will be interesting to see how it goes in October.

I am just wondering what Mark Shuttleworth means when he said something to the effect of, " Now is the time to take big risks with Ubuntu and push it into new territory, even if it may turn out a mess." Except slightly more elegant. Then basically said that if it doesn't work out recommend Dapper, but it is more important that we take big risks here to create a better distro next time. I am not sure what to make of it. I guess he just wants to make something nice to compete with Vista, probably figures it will be out the same time as Edgy +1.

I'd probably use Fedora more, 'cept it didn't like my hardware much. I always liked the simple install though, and how it comes on a DVD with tons of cool packages. Ubuntu is still trying to fit everything on a CD, worst of it being, they have to leave out some important stuff, like build-essential.... which some people need to to get the net working, and there for can't apt-get it.
