Hmm mine has an option when I shutdown to save the session information. That way any programs I leave open are run the next time I login.

Alternately look through the Applications -> Settings for something that says Sessions and open that then look for a "Startup" tab.

well if you leave em open, they SHOULD open back up (sometimes you have to "save session")

Other than that, maybe there's some scripting you could do....I'm not a linux guru...yet.

It's a standard part of gnome to have these options there. Check with your distro's forums, they may have more specific instructions. I'm not familiar with SuSe.

I've used RH9 FC5 and Ubuntu with the GNOME environment and all of them work similar.

EDIT Here we go.

To add a startup application, click Add. The Add Startup Program dialog is displayed. Specify the
command to start the application in the Startup Command field. If you specify more than one startup
application, use the Order box to specify the startup order of the each application.
To edit a startup application, select the startup application and then click Edit. The Edit Startup
Program dialog is displayed. Modify the command and the startup order for the startup application.
To delete a startup application, select the startup application and then click Delete.

This works.

I think it is System -- Preferences -- Sessions

Then just go to start up and put what you want:

i.e. gaim
or amsn

They will start with GNOME now.

This is for Ubuntu 6.06

However there should be a similar process in other GNOME desktops.
