Default Grub2 and Fedora Core 5 x64

Well I had to reformat my Sata drive for winblows. My FC5 is still on my IDE drive as I had no need to reformat it. My question is can I reinstall the boot loader thru the Fedora disk? I tried doing a update and selecting config boot loader with no luck. I have no way of getting into the Fedora partition, if I have to reformat it I will but I would prefer not to.

Boot from the First CD of Fedora. In rescue mode. Type into the prompt:

# chroot /mnt/sysimage
# grub-install <devive> (/dev/hda)

For example:

chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub-install /dev/hda1

Hope this helps!

BTW, once you've got into Fedora, create a boot floppy

John

I assume on second line I would put

# grub-install <device> (/dev/sda)

No. I have edited my post with an example. It would be:

# grub-install /dev/sda

Umm, I don't know. Not a regular Linux user, I just know how it works and the code.

It needs to be bootable in some way, so anything that you can boot into Linux from without GRUB - just incase you lose GRUB again.

There is a way, but it uses a cd that then boot the jump drive (if option is not in BIOS), not sure if that'd work or not, but it'd be worth the try.
