It's a pain to apply the configurations. I can't change from the default.

use ''sudo gedit conky rc'' because you won't have the permissions to edit the default ones by just using ''gedit conky rc''

I used a template for mine, just copy + pasted it from the internet.

sorry i forgot that bit, thought it was included in the .conkyrc file i linked.

you'll need to add these lines to your .conkyrc file

You don't need to sudo to edit your conky config unless your editing the main one in /etc (if there is one). You can save it as ~/.conkyrc and conky will load that config file if one is not specified. You wont need to over come any privileges issues either.
