Default First Linux load

I just received my free Ubuntu in the mail last Friday Do I just load it like i would regaler windows?. Yeah it might sound stupid but everyone need help with the simplest thing sometime. Where would i find the driver for my hardware? Like chip set and so on......

from the little i know about linux, just run it and it should find all your drivers! I've run knoppix on my laptop and it found all my drivers BEFORE it got to the desktop... very cool

With all stock settings and no kernel or compilation customisations, linux can be just as bloated as windows, so it will probably be pretty slow until you get the hang of some of the more advanced things. And yes, linux will probably detect most (except stuff like your graphics card) at stock and will be able to use most if not all features of them.

Tell me about it ... My laptop started to run even slower than when it had XP on it until I learned how to change/recompile kernels and remove some of the less usefull stuff.
