Default Notebook crashes during boot-up sequence

So I went and installed Xubuntu on an old Latitude notebook. Everything is fine except that it crashes during boot up every once in a while. It gets stuck at the "Loading Hardware Devices" stage; I have to manually reboot it and sometimes it loads successfully. It's rather random. I have tried booting up with all peripherals unplugged but it still does the same thing. The laptop booted up just fine when I had Win98 on it.

It does the same thing to me, but on the "Loading Network Interface" stage. I just do a manual reboot and usually it's fine. I figure it's not really that much of an annoyance, so I won't bother screwing with stuff.
