Default ATI driver uninstallation

So I noticed that ATI has new drivers out (8.29.6), so my question is, does anyone know how to uninstall ATI drivers in Ubuntu? I remember I once tried to install over some older drivers when trying to update and it broke my X server.

Uh, I'd just go into synaptic and uninstall everything fglrx...then go into /etc/X11/xorg.conf (as root) and change the Driver "fglrx" line to Driver "ati"

That pretty much sums it up I don't know how you'd install the newer ati driver though...if I were you (which I'm not, btw ) I wouldn't fix what isn't broken

In other words: Removed code is debugged code, and it certainly doesn't use any memory or CPU time; so even better if you don't write it.

I once did the mistake of doing that exact same thing (removing everything by way of synaptic); it rendered my X server completely useless. Found this Wiki entry that explains how to install the new drivers; it specifies that you must remove all old .deb files before installing or recompiling kernels (shows you how to do it too).
