I know it takes a long time for a kernel to compile, but it's been in the same spot for almost 3 hours. I've never seen a kernel take this long on my system before.

Depends. What options have you selected?

EDIT: For an kernel RPM set, it took me 5 and a half hours. BUT, for a single kernel, it took an two hours on my 1.6 dothan

I have Athlon XP optimizations and the only extra packages were Gaim, firefox and KDE.

EDIT: I know it can take days in total time, but the progress bar hasn't moved in 3 hours. It worked steady for 45 mintues before that.

Both. It's the GUI install off of the LiveCD.

The last thing it did succesfully was
It's stuck on It's been at a little under halfway done for a few hours.

It finished compiling the kernel around midnight EST last night, but it is still emerging packages. (Very slowly... I left it on all last night and during school today, so around 13 hours, its only 293/762. Seems to be moving a little faster now that I'm using it, though.)

They guide says it can take days, but I didn't expect it to really take days!
