im not really a big gnome fan(of corse i hanv'nt tryed it)

to easy, i just used
sudo -i
apt-get install gnome

EDIt: does this guy have a guide for installing amarok visualisations

Yep, that's pretty much all there is to it. Once you get X and one window manager installed, any other ones you could want usualy go on pretty easily.
