Quick question

Can the ubuntu installer shrink my vista partition?

I'm not sure. You can actually re-partition with Vista. Then when you go to install Ubuntu, go to manually partition and you can set it up.

Yes, when you choose what HD and partitions to do, just do manual and shrink your partition and make a swap and ext3 for linux to go on to. Or you can do it from GPartition which comes with Ubuntu on the disc
