Default Beryl and ATI = Love

So after not being able to run Beryl in XFCE window enviroment, I did some research. I installed gnome-desktop through xubuntu and then I made a custom XGL boot options and of course, it works.

I love BERYL

I am happy for you. It worked fine when I had my ATI Radeon x800xl installed on the sig below. Then I had another motherboard that had a pci-express slot and no internal graphics, and of course the one in my sig had internal graphics. Now the other computer is my workstation.

I'm liking the 'desktop effects' included on Ubuntu myself, but it's obviously only a small subset of the beryl options, any simple way of 'unlocking' the rest?

Thanks.

Just a question reguarding Beryl.. I installed it running Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 in a VMMWare shell and it never worked. I'm assuming because the WM can't gain for GDI from the video card (hence it's in a VMM Window) it won't work? I had to do an emergency boot and uninstall, reconfigure gnome to even be able to login gnome again..

Anyone have Beryl running on *nix in VMMWare?

Thanks.
Ubuntu comes with Compiz and thats the "desktop effects". The thing your thinking of though is Beryl.
Beryl has more features than compiz but less stable that compiz.

Probably not for a while. ATI cards are just to damn complicated and over-engineered that drivers are hard to finalize; I guess that is why ATI always had reservations on letting the open source community get their little hands on their driver code (a lot of **** can happen that could come back to bite ATI). Nvidia cards are known to be more "streamlined" that's why it takes so little to run them.
