I cannot install fedora 7 from the DVD, when i boot from it, i get the menu where i select to update/install fedora, then i am asked my language > english, then keyboard layout > UK
then it loads some drivers, now i choose the media type the installtion files are on, as they are on DVD i choose the local CDROM (others are HDD, NFS something, FTP, HTTP) now it says that it cant find a media device of the tpye i selected and gives me a list of drivers, i have loaded each driver in the list one at a time and none work, i can't go any further with the installation process. btw i am total noob to linux so keep it simple ![]()

Sounds as if the installation of Fedora fails to see your DVD drive up to a certain point. Are you using a SATA or PATA DVD drive?
If it is PATA, in BIOS change the PATA settings from IDE to AHCI. Then during setup you should be asked to install drivers to find the media, from their you need to find the generic AHCI driver. ^^ It is something like that, I remember reading up when Ubuntu 6 wouldn't install on my P5B because it had a Jmircon PATA controller which wasn't supported.

setting it to AHCI stop my computer from booting, it POSTs then does the XP loading bar and then restarts, if i try to boot with the Fedora DVD in the drive and AHCI enabled it hangs at POST.

Hmm, I dunno then. It worked for my problem. Windows also booted Ok when I did it although it came up saying it had found new hardware and carried on fine.
Maybe someone else has more insight. It may be worth checking in on the Fedora forums.
