Default Ubuntu Auto-Install Script

Every once in awhile I manage to royally screw my
Ubuntu installation (usually when messing with stuff
I shouldn't) and have to reinstall. So I wrote this script
to speed that up for myself and am sharing it with you.

Also, the Beryl and Emerald installation is for people
with nVidia cards, so remove that if you have ATI.

Removes:
  • Ekiga and xsane (I don't use either)
Installs:
  • Java 6
  • DVD Playback (with CSS, so edit if it's illegal where you are )
  • totem-xine (for DVD playback <- not illegal)
  • VLC
  • XMMS
  • Beryl & Emerald
  • Build Tools
  • Kernel Compilation Tools
  • GLADE
  • Emacs
  • Gnome Splash Screen Manager
  • GCursors (Change gnome cursor set)
  • DOSEmu
  • Ubuntu Restricted
  • WINE

Then it updates your system to the latest software.

Rename the file to UbuntuInstall.sh and set it's properties as
executable. As always, open it up in a text editor to ensure that
I'm not sneaking in any nasties.

Enjoy!

Well theres always Easydeb and Automatix, but both are a tad
unstable and since this is a commandline script it's a whole
lot cleaner. Plus I mean, fresh in a new install all I have to
do is open a terminal and type

./UbuntuInstall.sh

And it does it all for me without having to download extra
programs.

I've just noticed that I'm having a problem with the DVD Decryption install
script (but it's no big deal since VLC handles DVD's with or without it)

Cool man, I did the same thing for myself for Slackware. I have a 8gb drive, so I saved all the packages I use there and the script mounts it and installs all the packages and installs my custom kde themes and my preferences in xine and skins in xine and kde and my bookmarks in opera and my contact list in Kontact. It saves a lot of time and typing. I recommend making a script for the OS you use if your someone that has settled down on one distro.
