But there is nothing in which you will notice the differences. One of the few situations where you would actually notice anything would be during large kernel compiles.

when i was folding on linux i saw a huge difference.. while use devede i see a considerable difference.. instead of taking 1:23 minutes to make my dvd iso.. when i over clock i can do it in 30-45 minutes.. thats good time saved.. so to me its worth it..

Hmmm, worked for me (thankfully as I'm such a noob I wouldn't have figured it out) on my Xubuntu Gutsy system.

But it reports my Sempron64 3300+ as running at 2000MHz which is the stock speed but it should be running at 2500MHz (250 * 10)... at least that's what CPUZ under windows showed it as. I'll double check that my BIOS settings are as they were before the "Linux experiment" started ;-)

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read far enough. The cat /proc/cpuinfo reports it running @ 2GHz also. I'm off to double check BIOS now. - Yup FSB = 250, no multipier options on this mobo so 2.5GHz

I had already install the Gtk2-perl, but occurred "Can't locate OS.pm in @INC" error message. the detailed as below when I run the command "perl perlmon" again.

Sorry for taking so long to reply! Been swamped in my studies.

Can you please give me the output of the following command :

cd PerlMon-0.1.2/
ls -R

The problem seems that it just can not find the OS module that I wrote. These problems will be fixed in release 0.1.3, which I'll get back to working on right after this semester ends in two more weeks.

As for the problems with PerlMon reporting the speed of the CPU wrong.
This is NOT a problem with PerlMon. Its a known issue with /proc/cpuinfo. Its known that it sometimes does not read the CPU info right. It seems to become a bigger issue as of lately but I not know why this is yet, but I'm guessing something with the the newer kernels or something. I'm still developing on an old trusty Slackware 11 install with a 2.6.18 kernel, which I've been meaning to finally bring up-to-date.
At some point I'd like to switch things over in CPU.pm to start using CPUID as it'll be a lot more reliable way to get information about the CPU. If anyone is interested in helping me rewrite that module then please let me know. CUPID is what CPU-Z uses, so we all know we can trust it.

Ok, it doesn't work with Emerald.....and it's not reporting my CPU speeds correctly...says I'm at stock when I'm at 3.2...

It crashes Emerald and all my titlebars disapear and I have to do metacity --replace to get them and now Cojmpiz is gone...hmmm...I have to restart to fix it....

Works great under Gnome. KDE too for that matter, except that it doesn't recognize the window manager. CPU speeds are recorded correctly, only problem being an error in displaying the right amount of L1 cache (it's 128KB for AMDs right?). Ever plan on finishing up the GPU detection part?

Look at the README on different ways to run it.

Yeah read my last post about the CPU speed issue, not an issue this PerlMon, but one I'd like to fix soon.
The Emerald problem is a new one, would be interested to know if its an issue with Perlmon or just you.

What window manage are you using? Kwin?
whats the amount its showing for the L1 cache? The way I'm getting all that info is just a text dump of info and then using a regex to get all the bits. So its no means bullet proof yet.

I have about 5 more days left to this semester then I can finally make some work on it.
