I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 (64 bit). I downloaded all the updates including nvidia binary drivers, figured out how to get my resolution set correctly, and enabled my second monitor. I was asked to restart x so I did. When I got back to the desktop, everything worked fine except for the fact that the terminal will not open now. I can open every other app, just not the terminal. It shows up in my task manager for a few seconds and it's titled "opening terminal", but then it goes away. As I said, everything else works fine. I can open up Firefox for example, and drag it around between the 2 monitors, so I don't think it's an issue with my xorg.conf. I'm stumped. Anyone know what's up?

Try downloading another terminal or a terminal emulator. You can use the Add/Remove tool to find another terminal. Maybe go to synaptic and reinstall xterm.

I'd say reinstall the terminal. If that doesn't work just reinstall the OS. If there's one thing that you really need to work properly, it's the terminal. Plus it's a fresh install so reinstall should not be a problem

I installed Konsole and it seems like it did the trick. Now I'm having completely unrelated problems with wine, so I'm gonna blow it all away and try again. Thanks for the tips.
