This is supposed to be fixed in Gutsy....

People with Geforce 8000 series cards should start the install with Safe Graphics Mode... Do the install and then use Envy to get the proprietary drivers installed. I read somewhere that this "may" be fixed in Gutsy... Low priority bug fix last time I looked..

People with ATI X series cards should see here before installing: http://www.overclock.net/linux-unix-...on-gaming.html

Linux Mint users will experience crashes when opening a Terminal if using Intel i810 Graphics. The video depth mode set to 16 will resolve this.

Broadcom 43xx wireless users will have major headaches getting wireless working. There is a firmware hack (attached) that has worked for me but it will only work at 11Mbs..

These are all based on my own personal experience... Hopefully others will chime in.. There are a few things that can be show stoppers for new Ubuntu users and they get turned off and give up....

i have a 8000 series card and safe graphics mode wouldn't work for me so i had to hit F4 and choose what resolution to boot into then i could boot into the regular version.

Just read that Gutsy will ship with desktop effects enabled by default... I foresee mega posts in the Ubuntu forums...

As of Gutsy Tribe 2 GeForce 8xxx cards are supported... So no more nightmares for 8000 series card owners when Gutsy ships...

Also Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS (April 2008) will ship with ATI's new drivers.... Good news for ATI lovers!!!

For those not familiar with LTS (Long Term Support) it provides you with updates for three years for desktop versions and five years for server...

Peace!!

I have 6.06 and 6.10 and 7.04. I got a spindle of 100 CDR's today so I will be getting a whole bunch of new flavors of Linux to try out. I can't wait.

But yeah, you can add me to the list if you want. I still phail at everything like Beryl yet, but it will come...
