i think hobo is interested in doing one on slackware. i dont know how hard it is to install but getting the basics out of the way would be nice.

and i think a how to for ubuntu is nice to have so that we can compile the info into one place and then go from there with more specific problems and this may get more people willing to try to install it or just download it to try it out.

Default *Desktop Environment Memeory Usage*

Just for my own edification I booted the Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint Celena and Linux Mint Xfce Live CD's to take a look at memory usage... Keep in mind that these figures were derived by booting Live CD's on the rig in my signature and using the
Code:
top
command. No other applications were running.

Ubuntu 7.04 569440kb (Gnome)

Kubuntu 7.04 544690kb (KDE)

Xubuntu 7.04 465260kb (Xfce)

Linux Mint Celena 647416kb (Gnome)

Linux Mint Xfce 443476kb (Xfce)

Obviously running a Live CD hogs more memory because the whole system gets loaded into RAM. Case in point my Xubuntu install uses 238200kb...

These results may very from user to user. But this may give you an idea of the differences memory usage between the three DE's....

Peace!!

Club may turn people off and doesn't really say what the thread is about.
