I've tested all of the Tribe releases for Ubuntu and Xubuntu.. I tested the Ubuntu Beta. I'm downloading the Xubuntu Beta right now...

The Ubuntu 7.10 Beta is sweet... I had no problems with it at all.. Install was fine... There is a bug listed on the download page that says the install may die but you just have to reboot and try again.... I had no problems...

Like always the artwork is downright fugly... The first thing I do is get the Blubuntu theme via Synaptic... (Theme, GDM, splash, Wallpaper etc..)

You can install the nVidia 100 series and Broadcom wireless drivers with three mouse clicks...

Compiz-Fusion is nice but I have no use for it....

If you want to impress your Dad -In-Law Get 3.1 Celena not 3.0 Cassandra... Lots of new thingys.... NTFS support is supreme... Envy, Beryl/Compiz/Emerald and AIGLX are built in...

Peace!!!

EDIT: I've tested all of the Mint distros too.... Xfce version rocks!!! But I love Xubuntu better...

Not Bad...

Major changes that I observed during a cursory look were:

2.6.22-12 kernel... Great for Lappy's (extends battery life)

Xfce 4.4.1 replaces 4.4.0 !!

Murrina Storm Cloud Theme /Xfwm4.5-svn replaces Clearlooks /Default wm.. This give thes WM a darker look and when combined with the Thinice GTK it looks nicer... Great for dark look fans!!!

Mist icons added and they are nice and clean compared to Tango...

New wallpaper

Brasero replaces Xfburn. (Xfburn was a coaster manufacturing application anyways.)

Movie Player replaces gxine.

Pidgin replaces Gaim

Places "ala Gnome" added to top panel... (For me thats gotta go!)

When I set up my network and clicked on the ESSID in wireless settings all of the local routers were listed!!! How cool is that?

Thunar 0.8.0 remains the File Browser But thats the newest version available anyways...

Desktop Help Guide remains from 7.04 but I'm sure that will be fixed at release.

The boot screen is new and the throbber is HUGE!!! It looks funny.. Same in Ubuntu 7.10...

My Take?

IMHO.........

All in all just a few cosmetic and application improvements... Stuff you can do yourself on 7.04...

The best improvement..... 2.6.22 Kernel!!!

I'm still going to wait for 8.04.....

Peace!!!!!

Thanks endo, reset3x, and everyone else for all the information, not just in this thread. I'm just now getting into Linux primarily to improve my folding. I have Ubuntu 7.10 installed on another partition, but haven't had time to really play with it yet. It's very different, being lots of text based commands and stuff, but the abundance of resources on this site and others really explain needed concepts.

I can't see myself totally getting away from Windows, but you never know.
