ok i will probably be doing this with the new version of ubuntu which is 7.10. i will be comparing ubuntu 32 bit to ubuntu 64 bit. i will then compare kubuntu 32 bit and xubuntu 32 bit to regular ubuntu 32 bit. i also plan to compare 7.04 to 7.10.

i will use the Linux Benchmarks guide to decide what bench marks to use and all benchmarks will be installed first then i will run them. and i will use a fresh install os too. i also plan to use doom 3 to benchmark.

reset3x was nice enough to do a test between windows xp and xubuntu in doom 3 here are his results. he used the same settings for bench marking with doom 3 as i did. 1024x768x32 Ultra Quality

i dont know i will have to go back and check but i will post that when i find out. what would be the preferred setting.

Well, THG is using 1024x768x32, no AA, Trilinear Filtering and Ultra Quality as a starting point for their Doom 3 benches. Maybe you might want to do something like that?

EDIT: You might also want to specify what drivers you're using. Though it's not a "real" benchmark you could also use glxgears too.

updated. still haven't got a chance to run tests myself.

first update. i installed 7.10 and ran super pi and scored 2.744 seconds better with this install. but my install is also skinned so the real test will be when i test a fresh install of 7.04 against my install.

that is all for now i hope to get a doom 3 test done soon.
