I'm going to start another distro. I know I failed the last one, but I have more free time nowadays and I'd hope my knowledge of the workings of linux is better.

The idea:

Fedora (?) based linux distribution aimed toward Apple Mac's. This means;

• Streamlined Kernel, removing all the crud an Apple wouldn't need.

• Reworked application and driver set. Again, remove all the crud an Apple wouldn't need but add some programs to replace OS X functionality (Songbird - iTunes etc).

• Lower compatibility but higher performance (ie: compile everything to i686 specs with optimizations).

I am looking at domains and hosting but at the minute this is a pipe-dream. Input and idea's are very very welcome.

So is this supposed to run ON Macs, or is it supposed to kinda parallel Mac OS? I understand you said you don't want to clone OSX.

I'm actually very interested in this. I would also like to be considered as a tester. I have numerous types of Mac workstations that I could use.

In my experience, I and many of my co-workers use our Macs primarily for music and other media. Maybe gearing it a towards entertainment usage (in a classy, streamline way) might benefit?

I have a MBP and I'll be happy to do some testing. I'll run it along side OS X though in VMW.

Maybe Arch based?

I could do an arch-based system, its very streamlined and modify Anaconda (the best installer evar!). But it's early days yet
