Need help with Nvidia 7600 driver for Ubuntu 7.10?

How do i install the right driver? Where do i find it. The one i have currently is not letting me do the fancy settings.

Go to the nVidia website. It has drivers for Linux, but I am not familiar with it so I dont know if it works.

Didnt work. Could not open the file /home/deni/Desktop/NVIDI…ux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run.
gedit has not been able to detect the character coding. Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file. Select a character coding from the menu and try again

Just use the restricted-manager thingy, or Envy.

I hear there's "envy" and "restricted drivers manager" in Administration. I've never tried either, though. That's why I like Sabayon Linux; it detected everything right off the bat and installed it for me

Envy worked... I got another problem. When I first start linux it says " Failed To Initialize HAL!" What does this mean.

try reinstalling the hal packages in synpatic. should be packages "hal", "hal-cups-utilities", "hal-device-manager" and "hal-info"
