i couldn't get the [FAQ] Getting Mouse Side Buttons to work in Linux to make my side buttons to work in ubuntu so i thought i would make a write up for ubuntu.
this should work for 7.04 and 7.10 Quote:
now delete the line Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" now add this line Option "Buttons" "7" if you only have one scroll leave the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" line alone add this line too Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7 4 5 6" your mouse entry should now look like this. Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Buttons" "7" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7 4 5 6" EndSection now save your xorg.conf file now close all terminals and windows and and restart Xorg. Code:
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace

I'd try it, but I don't have Ubuntu. I'll try it in Sabayon since the side buttons do weird things by default and I'll report back.

that will work for any distro as the configuation for Xorg is not dependent on the distro.
