Ok basically I put together one of my new folding only rigs...
No OS and am trying to get Ubuntu on it... Please keep in mind I have NEVER used Ubuntu before... I downloaded the 7.10 and set it up on a CD per the directions and I get the directory open on the rig but nothing at all is working, every command I try is invalid or a no go... I been searching but can not find anything specific to my noob problem... ![]() Someone please help me I'm wasting valuable folding time!!! hehe Thank you in advance for any and all assistance...

a lot of commands youy have to start with sudo for them to work. its like running things in administrator mode. or if you dont want to type that type sudo-i and you will be in the admin mode also known as root. and try doing things from there. once you get the hang of navigating through directories things get easier

I typed that and it gave me bad command or file name...
I am so lost right now lol... Alright I put in the MoBo cd and typed setup and it says I have to run it in win32...? I'm not sure if that helps at all.. I can get into the bios and command line, that's it... I got to be missing something... I'm used to putting the XP disc in and being good to go...lol

Fair enough
I put everything together, put in MoBo CD and everything I'm trying to do it tells me either can't be done in dos or needs win32... Then I put in the Ubuntu 7.10 CD and can't even change directories... I'm lost at what I' trying to do now too...=[ I appreciate you taking the time to try and make some sense out of what the hell I'm doing and trying to help... =]

okay so you dont have it installed yet? and the motherboard cd with all your drivers on it? thats the one your talking about? it has all .EXE which are not compatible with linux thats why its telling you you need the win32 stuff. if you have linux installed you should try installing wine to run your motherboard cd to get the drivers off of it. so am i getting anywhere here lol?

I do not have U7.10 installed yet correct hehe
Also correct on the motherboard cd w/drivers I don't anything installed at this point, I think that's my biggest problem Do I need to DL linux before messing with Ubuntu? I thought U7.10 is all I needed. I'm beginning to think XP would have been easier lol but everyone says this U7.10 is best for folding rigs.

okay so pop the cd in the drive. go into your bios tell it to boot from cd first. when it boots up into its little menu just hit start or install ubuntu. i always started mine in safe graphics mode becuase my card wasnt supported so you might want to try that to just be on the safe side. once your booted into the live cd environment there is a icon on the desktop that says install. click that and its really self explanitory from there. once you have it installed and it restarts and everything make sure to get all your updates out of the way. then you should be good to go just get the folding client or whatever its called and start folding some protiens lol

Good Lord, that's all it was...
As soon as I changed the CD to first boot option sure as you said it popped right up and I am doing safe graphics mode since it's onboard graphics... You my friend are a life saver... Thank you ever so much for being patient and dealing with me... Rep+ for sure...
