I am having a hell of a time trying to install wine in Ubuntu 7.1. I have followed several guides including this one but they either dont cover 7.1 or have urls that are down for winetools. any advice? . . Im a bit of a n00b

sudo apt-get install wine
or
Open synaptic, search for wine, click install, click apply.

I got it installed . . . of the three tutorials I found two had dead links that the one here was for all up to fiesty . .which I tried and dint work? . . w/e its done now. . thnx

Can't you go to Add/Remove Programs, search "wine", check off the box, hit accept and then be on your merry way?

I dont know much about linux .. . its my second time trying lol


a side note, the program is installed but there is no .wine folder in my home folder as per the install CS:S instructions indicate. . . . I think I have taken all steps I need to but guides are conflicting.

A dot (.) preceding any file or folder makes it invisible.

So the folder ".wine" is located in your /home/<username> directory (also known as ~. Your .wine folder is therefore located in ~/.wine, or /home/<username>/.wine.

Your C drive is the folder in .wine called drive_c. That's what wine pretends in the actual windows drive "C:\"
