Default The ™ symbol and 64 bit Ubuntu

Hey guys I just threw another drive into my PC to try out the new Ubuntu. I'm not much of a linux user but there is one thing that I can't figure out. I have the 64 and 32bit Ubuntu versions. I figured why not just install 64bit since I have it. Problem is right after loading the Linux kernel the screen just stays black. On, but black. It loads and does all of its stuff but I can never see it. So right now I'm on the 32bit version.

Also, does anyone know how to make this symbol ™ in Linux? I can't seem to find out how... Thanks

This sounds like the same problem I had...

F6 at the disk's boot menu, and type in "acpi=off." Then continue to boot the live disk.

I don't know how to do a TM symbol, sorry.

Some nVidia cards have trouble at that spot. Try what THG says and if that doesn't work, instead of typing acpi=off, press F6 and delete the last two works in that line and instead type "nosplash" and press enter. It should go from there. This is what I have to do everytime I insert the live cd for Ubuntu.
