Ok, I have another question. I just downloaded the drivers from NVs site. Is there a special place I need to put them? The file is on my desktop atm.
I'm getting the error that I can't run it when I type this in terminal Quote:

cd /home/(username) rename your driver as well so you dont have a massive file extension name to remember

Moving it to my home folder worked. Now I get the error saying I'm running an x server and that I need to quit x before installing.
Grats on your flame.

You need to restart your comp for this bit, then enter text-only (read that ubuntu forums thread for how to do this). Either that or Killall x from command. Once you've got x-server out, you are on your own with the command line, so you wont have buttons or anything like that. From there, procede with driver install. best of luck

Hmm, I can get to the command prompt just fine now, but I get the "can't run the file" error in command prompt. When I run it in the normal ubuntu terminal, it works but it tells me to exit x server.

Also. are you running the following command before you run the file: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop Log into text mode, run that, then: sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.04-pkg1.run That will build the driver file and install. After all of that is complete, you need to make a repair to startup your GUI again: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video comment out 'install nvidia /sbin/lrm-video nvidia $CMDLINE_OPTS' with a # at the start. Then: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start HOPEFULLY that should do it.
